Are you drinking too much? If you’re aged 40 – 74, get a Free NHS Health Check during Alcohol Awareness Week.

It’s Alcohol Awareness Week, 3rd – 9th July, and a new survey commissioned by charity Alcohol Change UK, shows that the number of people considered to be at risk of alcohol harm is increasing with 39% of drinkers considered to be at increasing risk and 65% at high risk.*  Are you one of them?

If you are aged between 40 – 74, don’t have a pre-existing health condition and haven’t had a NHS Health Check in the last 5 years, then you are entitled to a free check.

This simple free check, delivered locally within your community, takes only 20-30 mins, during which you will be asked some straightforward questions about your lifestyle and the health professional will do some basic tests. These will include checking your Blood pressure, Height, Weight, BMI (a measure of whether you are a healthy weight), Cholesterol and HbA1C (diabetes).

The free NHS Health Check aims to spot the early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia. The Health Professional will also help you to find ways to lower your risks and support you to make any simple changes needed to lead a healthier life.

Could this be the start of a new healthier lifestyle, one that lowers the amount you drink?

To book your free NHS Health Check, please call 0333 005 0095 or text ‘HEART’ to 60777.

*The survey was commissioned by Alcohol Change UK and was carried out online by Opinium between 6 and 9 June 2023. Total sample size was 2,000 UK adults, of whom 1,474 said they were drinkers. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+).
