Bracknell Forest

Adult Weight Management

Maintaining a healthy weight isn’t just good for your physical health, it plays a vital part in your mental well-being too. If you’re overweight, you’re more likely to suffer medical conditions such as Coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, Coronary heart disease and certain cancers, including breast and bowel. You also more likely to suffer a stroke and a heart attack than others of the same age. There is strong evidence that weight issues also link to depression.

How we can help you

Here in Bracknell Forest, we offer a 12 week programme, 45 minutes Nutrition Workshop and 45 minutes physical activity, lots of options to understand food choices and to help you find tasty, small changes to help you lose weight for good. We run groups and one to one sessions with our trained and friendly registered nutritionists. They are also fun and sociable, giving you the chance meet people who, just like you, want to get fit and lose weight.

We encourage a balanced approach including both what you eat and helping you to move more, as well as helping you to track your progress – we’ll be there every step of the way, and to cheer on every pound you lose.

Child Weight Management

Bracknell Forest’s alive n kicking is a Child Weight Management service to help overweight children, young people and their families to reach and maintain a healthy weight and BMI for their age.

How we can help you

Here in Bracknell Forest, we offer a 12-week programme that includes nutrition workshops and fun physical activity classes for children to learn and make friends.

Our workshops aim to educate families and carers on how to prepare healthier meals, allowing them to become more familiar with a wide range of fruit and vegetables and cooking methods. We explore sensory aspects of food to help overcome fussy eating and build confidence with parents and children alike. By the end of the programme, our aim is to give families practical skills to empower them to make sustainable long-term healthy lifestyle choices. Alongside helping to encourage children and young people to adopt a different approach to their eating habits, alive n kicking also concentrates on increasing physical activity, with families also encouraged to become more physically active outside of the classes.

Who can join alive n kicking?

  • All children aged 4 – 12 years who are on or above the 80th BMI centile living, going to school, or registered with a GP in Bracknell Forest.
  • A child who is within a healthy weight range for their age may take part with a sibling who is above the 80th BMI centile that is attending the sessions.

For children and young people aged 2-20 years, BMI is plotted on BMI Growth Charts. Growth Charts take into account age and gender, as well as height and weight. The Growth Chart then shows us what centile your child is.

To work out your child’s Centile, download the Growth Charts UK-WHO app: –
